once upon a chef jam bars

Okay, so I stumbled across this movie recommendation the other day, and it totally grabbed my attention. It’s called “Once,” and from what I gather, it’s a really sweet, independent film with some amazing music. I’m thinking it might be the perfect thing to watch this weekend when I’m in the mood for something a little different.

Once (2006)

This movie’s cover art is just so captivating! It hints at a story that’s both intimate and musically rich, and honestly, that’s exactly what I’m looking for. I’ve heard it’s a heartwarming tale of two musicians who find each other and their shared love of music blossoms into something beautiful. I’m really hoping it lives up to the hype!

Movie cover for Once (2006)Now, because I’m me, I can’t just think about a movie without somehow connecting it to food. This film, with its raw emotion and Irish setting, makes me think of something simple, comforting, and maybe just a little bit warming. So, I’ve decided on a recipe for Irish Soda Bread! It’s perfect for a cozy night in, watching a film like “Once,” with a cup of tea or coffee.

Irish Soda Bread

This bread is quick to make and doesn’t require any yeast, which is a bonus when you want something delicious fast. It has a slightly tangy flavor and a crumbly texture, perfect with butter and jam, or even just on its own.

Ingredients:

* 4 cups all-purpose flour * 1 teaspoon baking soda * 1 teaspoon salt * 1/4 cup granulated sugar * 1 3/4 cups buttermilk * 2 tablespoons melted butter, for brushing ### Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the buttermilk.
  4. Using a wooden spoon or your hands, mix the ingredients together until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. The dough will be sticky.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently shape it into a round.
  6. Place the dough on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Using a sharp knife, cut a cross into the top of the dough, about 1/2 inch deep.
  8. Brush the top of the dough with the melted butter.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  10. Let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.

I’m thinking a slice of this warm Irish Soda Bread, slathered with some Irish butter, while watching “Once,” would be the perfect combination. The simplicity of the bread mirrors the authenticity of the film, at least that’s what I imagine! It just feels like a good fit.

I’m really looking forward to checking this movie out. Hopefully, it’ll be a good watch. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll give the Irish Soda Bread a try too! Let me know what you think if you do!
